Product Type 3: Veterinary hygiene

Product Type 3: Veterinary hygiene

It covers products used for hygiene purposes, including products used in areas where animals are housed, kept or transported.

The product type can be divided into the following subtypes:

• Disinfectants applied directly to pets eg. for teat and udder cleaning and animal foot baths;
• Disinfectants for areas where animals are housed, kept or transported;
• Disinfectants for milking equipment.
Exposure:

- Disinfectants applied directly to pets

Human exposure to products used in nail baths will be through possible skin contact while filling nail baths. Disposal of the contents of nail baths is usually done directly into slurry containers and therefore does not imply human exposure.
While human exposure to products used in teat and udder cleaning may occur through skin contact or immersion with cloths during application, aerosols may be generated during spray application.

- Areas where animals are housed, kept or transported

Human exposure is primarily through skin contact during the use of disinfectants used in areas where animals are housed, held or transported. Inhalation may occur due to aerosol formation during cleaning with high pressure water after application.

- Milking equipment

Milking equipment etc. Human exposure to disinfectants used for disinfection is primarily through skin contact during the introduction of products into equipment.
