Product Type 19: Repellents and attractants
Repellents and attractants are products used to control harmful organisms (invertebrates such as fleas, vertebrates such as birds) by repelling or attracting them, including those used directly or indirectly for human or veterinary hygiene. Repellents stimulate a directed movement from a source. Attractors include sex attractants (pheromones to attract males), spawning baits (against females), or food baits (both males and females).
The product type can be organized into two subtypes:
• Repellents for mosquito, flea and other insect control;
Products in this group are biocidal products used to repel or attract mosquitoes, fleas and other arthropods. They are used in private residences, public and industrial buildings, transportation sector, textile and leather industry, food and feed industry, veterinary purposes (animal shelter, slaughterhouse, corpse), sewage systems (waste water treatment, cooling water systems). ) and outdoors (for example, public places, private and public gardens).
Products used against mosquitoes, fleas and other insects are used either directly on humans or animals, as smoking products or in impregnated dishes. Repellents are also used to protect items/materials, eg spraying storage boxes etc.
When the products are used directly on humans or animals, they are sprayed on the skin or applied with a sponge.

Repellents and attractants are used to control prey to prevent them from eating new shoots on fruit trees, deciduous trees and conifers.
Biocides are applied to trees by spraying repellent. Biocides in repellents and attractants for bird control are mainly used to prevent game and birds from staying in undesirable places, eg. pigeons on the window sills.
Repellents are used for dogs and cats to prevent them from going to certain areas. Repellents are typically sprayed onto the floor or applied in powder form.
