Product Type 4: Food and feed area
Food and feed field disinfectants are used for disinfection of equipment, containers, consumables, surfaces or pipes associated with the production, transport, storage or consumption of food, feed or beverage (including drinking water) for humans and animals.
The product type can be organized into the following fields of application:
• Food and feed area disinfectants used in agriculture;
Disinfectants are used in agriculture for the disinfection of containers, consumables, surfaces and pipework for the transport, storage and consumption of feed and drinking water. Feed area disinfectants are not routinely used. Disinfection can be carried out when part of the barn is closed, eg. With a chicken cut every 6 weeks, eg. Salmonella or sometimes after unloading equipment. The feeding system will not be disinfected separately. In practice, a disinfection process is very comprehensive and covers the entire interior of the building, including all equipment.
• Disinfectants used in the food processing industry;
Disinfectants are typically used after cleaning operations to disinfect equipment, containers, consumables, surfaces or pipes associated with the production, transport, storage or consumption of food or beverages. After disinfectant application, the applied area/equipment is washed with water.
• Disinfectants used for food processing in retail stores or other food processing areas.
The disinfectant is used for food processing areas other than the food processing industry, eg. Retail stores such as butchers, bakeries, cafeterias, canteens and other catering activities to maintain a satisfactory standard of hygiene. Disinfectants are typically used after cleaning operations to disinfect equipment, containers, consumables and surfaces. After disinfectant application, the applied area/equipment is washed with water.
Food and feed area disinfectants are used to maintain a high standard of hygiene to prevent possible sources of infection and contamination in food and feed, thereby minimizing the risk of foodborne illness.
