Bacterial Endotoxin Test (Lal Test)

Bacterial Endotoxin Test (Lal Test)

Bacterial Endotoxin Analysis (LAL) is an in vitro test that is an important part of pharmaceutical microbiology and is used to detect the presence and concentration of bacterial endotoxins in drugs and biological products. Endotoxins, a type of liposaccharide and pyrogen found in the cell walls of gram-negative bacteria, are substances that can be harmful, even fatal, for humans at certain concentrations.

Bacterial Endotoxin Analysis (LAL) is an important test parameter performed in in vitro medical products, pharmaceutical industry and dialysis waters. Examples of gram-negative bacteria that produce pyrogens;

- Klebsiella
- Enterobacter
- Escherichia coli
- Proteus

Pyrogenic substances can be produced by many bacteria, fungi, viruses and mycobacteria. Due to their negative effects on human health, they must be detected by various analysis and test methods.

- European Pharmacopeiae (E.P.) 2.6.14-Bacterial Endotoxins
- United States Pharmacopeiae (USP)-85-Bacterial Endotoxins Test
