2-Phenylphenol (OPP), also known as biphenyl-2-ol, is a multi-site bactericide and fungicide with basic activity in the cell wall, disrupting membrane potentials and providing general membrane permeability of the cytoplasmic membrane.

It has broad activity against potentially harmful microorganisms such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterococcus hirae, Staphylococcus aureus, Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans. OPP used in Type 2 Biocidal Products is used for surface disinfection in healthcare environments such as hospitals.
