EN 1276
The EN 1276 standard, which contains requirements for chemical disinfectant or antiseptic evaluation testing for bactericidal activity, is used to determine whether a chemical disinfectant or antiseptic has bactericidal activity. Bactericidal or antimicrobial produced disinfectants and antiseptics are products produced to control and combat certain populations of pathogenic microorganisms.
The scope of use of the EN 1276 standard is as follows:
- Food, industrial, domestic and institutional areas,
- Used in living tissues other than hand hygiene (such as hydroalcoholic gels) in food, industrial areas, except in areas and situations where disinfection is medically indicated
EN 1276 - Biological products - Bactericidal: Antiseptics and chemical disinfectants:
- Quantitative suspension testing for the evaluation of bactericidal activity of antiseptics and chemical disinfectants used in food processing, industry, household and community areas.
- Various microorganisms (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus hirae) are used to challenge the product.
- Microorganisms are exposed to the test solution.
- The number of viable bacteria is determined. The decrease in vitality is calculated.
