EN 13623

The EN 13623 standard includes the test method for determining the bactericidal activity of chemical disinfectant products intended for treatment in aqueous systems against Legionella pneumophila.

EN 13623, Evaluation of Bacterial Killing Efficiency Against Legionella in Chemical Disinfectants and Antiseptics is suitable for water used in cooling towers and for general purpose waters that can be used in spas, pools, showers and different areas. This test method is not used for electro-chemical disinfection. Applicable to Chemical Disinfectants and Antiseptics, used as a single-application shock therapy to kill Legionella pneumophila.

Principle of Test
• A sample of product diluted with hard water is added to a test suspension of bacteria in an interfering agent solution.
• The mixture is maintained at the contact time and temperature conditions selected under the standard.
• At the end of the process, the number of live bacteria is determined in each sample and the decrease, if any, is detected.
